my past

Work is based on the idea of wishful thinking, dreams and almost onto sacrificing. The small ceramic pieces are imprints of peoples hands when linked and crunched up as in the motion of wishing.

recent work

All based on the theme of Domestic Violence, the emotional, physical and financial abuse suffered by a member of a close relationship. My work conveys the fragility of a victim of domestic violence in a subtle way leaving the viewer pondering if there had been an act of violence or leaving them in suspense. Each match is carefully placed in uniform to represent the repetitive actions of an abuser. I chose to use matches as they are an every day domestic object and can create a violent action almost immediately from a stable form.

The furniture is all second hand so it has a history of being in a family situation. The four chairs are balanced to create a hostile and insecure atmosphere and the causes the viewer to keep their distance and be tempted to touch.

The burning furniture was another way of representing my understanding of domestic violence, only this time it was obvious, violent and powerful.
